The Plymouth State University Karl Drerup Art Gallery & Exhibitions Program is presenting three summer exhibitions, LIFE, STILL, 2006 Wildlife Art Contest Calendar and Arno Rafael Minkkinen: Works from Fosters Pond and Beyond.
LIFE, STILL opened July 5 in the Silver Cultural Arts Center and features the watercolors of Cionia Lanza, a self-taught painter who started exploring her visual language later in life. The exhibition focuses on Lanza’s still life and flower pieces, and runs concurrent to the New Hampshire Music Festival through August 13. The exhibition can be viewed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and during performances.
Also on display in the Silver Cultural Arts Center will be artwork submitted by students from throughout the state of New Hampshire in grades six through 12 for the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center 2006 Wildlife Art Contest Calendar, with a special display of works by the finalists.
Arno Rafael Minkkinen: Works from Fosters Pond and Beyond opened July 11 and runs through August 13 in the Karl Drerup Art Gallery located in the Draper & Maynard Building on Main St.
A renowned photographer, Minkkinen has been making self-portraits in the landscapes of New England, Europe and his Finnish homeland since 1971. Surreal in intent, the result often humorous, the photographs are direct recordings of what happened in front of Minkkinen’s lens. The Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, noon – 5 p.m.
