KEENE, N.H. – Freshman Jason Lombardo (Woburn, Mass.) scored two goals Saturday, including the game-winner with 2:41 to play in the second
overtime, to give Keene State College a thrilling 2-1 win over rival Plymouth State College in a Little East Conference men’s soccer game.
It was the sixth win in the last seven games for Keene State, which is now 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the LEC. The loss snapped PSC’s three-game winning
streak, dropping the Panthers to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Freshman John Harke (Leeds, Mass.) broke down the left side and crossed the ball to Lombardo, who beat Panther goalie Scott Laine (Spencer,
Mass.) to the short corner of the net. It was his team-leading 10th goal for Keene State.
Both teams scored a pair of second half goals, sending the game into OT. PSC got on the board first when sophomore Michael Cantelli (Raymond,
N.H.) notched his fourth goal of the season at 57:57, with an assist to senior John Foster (Haddonfield, N.J.). KSC got the equalizer six minutes later when
Lombardo converted a penalty kick.
Laine was sensational in goal for PSC, finishing with 14 saves. D.J. Nordmark had four saves for the Owls.
Plymouth State plays a non-conference road game Thursday (Oct. 11) at Salem State (7 p.m.).
