NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Kyle Minaker (Newton, Mass.) and sophomore David Bulhoes (Billerica, Mass.) scored three goals apiece Saturday afternoon to lead Lasell College past Plymouth State University, 10-5, in the men’s lacrosse season opener for both schools.
The Lasers picked up a little revenge against the Panthers, who knocked Lasell out of the 2005 ECAC New England Tournament with a 9-8 upset victory in the first round. Lasell scored the only three goals of the third period Saturday to turn a 5-2 lead into an 8-2 margin and PSU could not recover as the teams each scored two times in the final frame.
Junior Al Zayac (West Springfield, Mass.) also scored two goals for the winners, while freshman Derek Allan (Billerica, Mass.) and senior Louis Lucchetti (Newton, Mass.) added a goal apiece.
Sophomore Adam Krinsky (Concord, N.H.) and freshman Dan Maiorana (Walpole, Mass.) led the Panther offense with two goals apiece, while senior Jon Gagnon (New Bedford, Mass.) contributed a goal and two assists. Freshman Luke Metraw (Chelmsford, Mass.) also recorded an assist.
Sophomore Mark DeMieri (Seaford, N.Y.) was busy in the Lasell net but earned the victory with 21 saves. Junior goalie Steve Valeri (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished with 15 saves for the visitors.
PSU gets back into action next Saturday during the team’s spring trip to Florida. The Panthers will face Plattsburgh State Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Orlando, Fla. Lasell is home again Wednesday against Salve Regina (3:00 p.m.)
