WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – Sophomore Ryan Moreau (Worcester, Mass.) scored with 52 seconds remaining Thursday evening, breaking a 6-6 tie and lifting Plymouth State University to a dramatic 7-6 victory over Suffolk University in non-conference men’s ice hockey action at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
The Panther victory wiped out a pair of comebacks by the visitors. Suffolk overcame a 4-1 second-period deficit to tie the game at 4-4 late in the middle frame, and rebounded from a 6-4 deficit in the third period to even the score at 6-6 with 2:05 remaining, only to see Moreau’s goal win it for the hosts.
Sophomore Goose LaCroix (Moretown, Vt.) led the Panther offense with two goals and one assist, while senior Dennis Kane (Westford, Mass.) added a goal and two assists. Senior Matt Withers (Laconia, N.H.) and juniors Jay Londer (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Andy Herlihy (Bow, N.H.) also found the scoring column for PSU, and freshman defenseman Pat Turcotte (Goffstown, N.H.) collected three assists.
Freshman Alex Olson (Hingham, Mass.) scored the two third-period goals for Suffolk, including the tying goal with 2:05 on the clock. Senior Mike Boles (Hingham, Mass.) finished with a goal and two assists, and sophomore Dan Pencinger (Randolph, N.J.) and freshman John Rocchio (East Greenwich, R.I.) had a goal and an assist each. Sophomore Joe Diorio (Newington, Conn.) also scored once for the Rams.
Junior goalie Trevor Cherry (Greenland, N.H.) made 22 saves to earn the win for PSU in his first appearance of the season. Senior Greg Blais (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) and freshman Mark Grignon (Grosse Point, Mich.) combined for 41 saves for the visitors.
