PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Amy Drake (Bellingham, Mass.) scored a goal with 33 seconds left in regulation Saturday afternoon to lift Springfield College over Plymouth State University, 3-2, in a non-conference field hockey game at PSU’s Arold Field.
Springfield came from two goals down to pull out the contest between the two unbeaten teams. The Pride improve to 4-0, while the Panthers drop to 2-1.
Junior Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass.) gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead at halftime with her fourth goal of the season, with an assist from sophomore Melanie Bates (Derry, N.H.). Silva added her second of the game, with an assist from senior Caitlin Moran (Rowley, Mass.) 10 minutes into the second half to put the hosts up by two.
Springfield started its comeback with 16:34 to play on an unassisted goal by junior Amber Paradee (Sheldon, Vt.). The Pride evened the score less than three minutes later on a goal by sophomore Christine Gibbons (Eden, N.Y.). Then, with overtime looming, Drake finished off a play by freshman Brittany Veazie (Dexter, Maine) for the game-winner.
The visitors finished with a narrow 19-18 advantage in shots on goal. Springfield goalie Lindsay Pardue (Houston, Tex.) registered 15 saves while PSU netminder Katie Randall (Portsmouth, N.H.) made 11 saves.
Plymouth State is off until next weekend, when it hosts UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (12:30 p.m.) and Bates on Sunday (11:30 a.m.). Springfield plays again Tuesday at Middlebury (4:00 p.m.).
