WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – ECAC Northeast Conference-leading Johnson and Wales University scored three first period goals and went on to capture a 5-1 ice
hockey victory over Plymouth State College Saturday evening at Waterville Valley Ice Arena.
Sophomore Brandon Stevens (Smithfield, R.I.), junior Dave Accetturo (Johnson, R.I.) and sophomore Derek Foster (Warwick, R.I.) each connected on first period
goals to give the Wildcats a lead they would never surrender.
Freshman Steven Harris (West Haven, Conn.) gave the visitors a 4-0 lead just 2:55 into the second period. Plymouth State changed goaltenders, going from
freshman Mike Mansson (Jackson, Wy.) to junior Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.), and it was a 1-1 hockey game the rest of the way.
PSC got on the board at 2:32 of the third period, as junior John Hornor (Marlton, N.J.) notched his team-leading sixth goal of the season, with an assist from
freshman scoring leader Garrett Dionne (Clarence Center, N.Y.)
Senior Bill Saltzman (Medway, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats with a goal at 15:26 of the third period.
Mansson finished with 17 saves for PSC, while Forgue made 27 stops. Senior Scott Jacob (Milford, Conn.) made 25 saves for JWU.
The Wildcats remain in first place in the ECAC Northeast at 10-0-0 in conference play, 13-4-1 overall. PSC drops to 2-12-1 and 2-5-0. PSC travels to conference foe
Lebanon Valley Tuesday at 7 p.m. JWU hosts second-place Tufts Sunday at 8:15 p.m.
