PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the senior captains on the Plymouth State College women’s soccer team was honored Monday by the Little East Conference for her
outstanding performance in a Panther victory last week.
Senior Jill Wolters (Vernon, N.J.) was named to the LEC Weekly Honor Roll after helping PSC snap a four-game losing streak last Saturday. She scored two key
goals as PSC captured a 3-2 double-overtime victory at Rhode Island College to earn a spot in this week’s LEC Tournament.
With PSC trailing RIC 2-1 in the second half last Saturday, Wolters took matters into her own. She scored the tying goal with five minutes left in regulation to send
the game into overtime, then tallied the winning goal with just 42 seconds remaining in the second OT. Wolters, who has been valuable as both a defender and striker
this season, has three goals and one assist for the year.
Wolters will lead the Panthers into the opening round of the LEC Tournament. PSC, 6-9-0 overall and 3-4-0 in conference action, is the fifth seed in the tourney and
will play at fourth-seeded RIC Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. The winner advances to Friday’s semifinal contest at top-seeded and regular season champion Western Connecticut
(6:00 p.m.). The LEC title game is Sunday, Oct. 28th, with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
PSC defeated RIC 3-0 in the opening round of the LEC Tournament last season in Plymouth, but was eliminated in the semifinals at Keene State, 2-0.
