PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Four Plymouth State College student-athletes were recognized Monday by the Little East Conference for their performances in Panther games last week.
Sophomore Kim Jeffs (Stoughton, Mass.) was selected LEC Softball Pitcher of the Week, freshman Bobby Dabrieo (Woburn, Mass.) was named LEC Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week, and two PSC women’s lacrosse players were honored, junior Carmen Villanueva (East Schodack, N.Y.) as Defensive Player of the Week and freshman Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) as Rookie of the Week.
A sophomore right-hander, Jeffs continues to dominate her opponents. In four appearances last week, she was 3-1 with a 0.78 earned run average, allowing only 18 hits and four runs (three earned) in 27 innings. She walked just one batter and struck out 42, increasing her NCAA Division III leading total to 244 strikeouts. Jeffs capped her week with consecutive shutouts, a four-hitter and a three-hitter, over Western Connecticut, the No. 1 ranked team in New England which had won 12 in a row.
A freshman attack, Dabrieo received the LEC Rookie of the Week honor for the second time this season. In three games last week, he registered 10 points and helped PSC to a pair of wins. Dabrieo tallied four goals in an LEC win over Salem State, added three goals and an assist in a non-conference victory at Johnson State, and wrapped up the week with a team-high two goals in a conference loss to Keene State. Dabrieo is now fourth on the team in scoring with 22 goals, four assists and 26 points.
A junior goaltender, Villanueva stopped 27 of 36 shots in two games last week (.750 saves percentage), helping the Panthers to a pair of wins and clinching the LEC regular season title. She registered 16 saves in a 17-6 win at Colby-Sawyer, and stopped 11 shots in a 14-3 league win over Western Connecticut. Villanueva leads the LEC in goals against average (6.96) and saves percentage (.665).
A freshman attack, Brown finished the week with eight points (seven goals, one assist) in PSC’s two wins. She scored four goals and one assist in win at Colby-Sawyer, and added three goals in the LEC win over Western Conn. Brown is fourth in the LEC in scoring with 3.50 points per game (33 goals, nine assists, 42 points).
