PLYMOUTH, N.H. — A junior on the Plymouth State College women’s tennis team has been named Player of the Week by the Little East Conference.
Junior Sarah Kasuba (Stratford, Conn.) is the first Panther to receive the honor, as this is the first year that the LEC selects a Player of the Week in women’s tennis. Kasuba finished off a perfect week in both singles and doubles, leading the Panthers to a perfect 3-0 week.
A 5’6” junior, Kasuba went 3-0 in singles, winning twice at No. 3 and once at No. 4. She also won all three of her doubles contests at No. 2, paired with teammate Katie Olsen (Reading, Mass.) twice and Cally Thorup (Cumberland, Maine) once, as PSC defeated Salem State, Green Mountain College and UMass Dartmouth.
Kasuba has moved around the Panther line-up, but remains undefeated this fall. She is 5-0 in singles (2-0 at No. 3, 2-0 at No. 4 and 1-0 at No. 5), and 4-0 in doubles (all at No. 2).
Plymouth State, 4-1 overall and 1-1 in LEC matches, is enjoying one of its best seasons in years. The Panthers have already matched last year’s win total, when they finished 4-6, and have surpassed the win totals of 1998 and 1999.
PSC returns to action with a pair of Little East Conference matches this week – Wednesday (Sept. 26) at Southern Maine (3:30 p.m.) and Saturday (Sept. 29) at home against UMass Boston (1:00 p.m.).
