Little East Conference Basketball

It will be a Little East Conference Tournament doubleheader Tuesday night at Foley Gymnasium when the Panther men’s and women’s basketball teams begin play in the annual LEC Tournament. Both PSC squads earned the right to host a first-round game.

The Panther women, 17-7 overall, finished third in the LEC with a 9-5 mark and will host sixth-seeded Western Connecticut State University (10-14 overall, 4-10 in the
LEC) Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

The Panther men, 15-9 overall, tied for fourth in the
conference at 8-6, but won the tiebreaker over Eastern Connecticut State University and will host the fifth-seeded Warriors (13-12 overall) Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Plymouth State will be looking to make it three-game sweeps over both opponents. The Panther men, led by head coach John Scheinman, defeated Eastern Conn. 94-72 on Dec. 8 in Connecticut and 79-67 on Jan. 26 in Plymouth.

The PSC women, guided by head coach Lauren Lavigne, got past Western Conn. 57-55 on Jan. 5 in Plymouth, and 62-50 on Feb. 2 in Connecticut.

Tuesday’s winners advance to the respective semifinals at the site of the regular season champions. The women’s winner will face second-seeded Eastern Connecticut Friday at 6 p.m. at top-seeded University of Southern Maine, while
the men’s winner will tangle with regular season champion Keene State College Friday at 8 p.m. in Keene.

The championship games are at 3 p.m. Saturday at Southern Maine and Keene State, respectively, with the winners receiving an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
