Local Businesses Sponsor Cultural Activities for Pakistani Teachers

Plymouth State University extends sincere thanks to Speare Memorial Hospital (SMH), Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank and Laconia Savings Bank for sponsoring events/transportation for the 25 Pakistani teachers attending PSU for a five-week summer institute and cross-cultural exchange.

Thanks to the support of SMH, the teachers were able to travel to North Sutton for a performance of Mail to the Chief by the Kearsarge Arts Theater Company on July 24. On August 4, the teachers traveled to Manchester for a Fisher Cats baseball game thanks to Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank and Laconia Savings Bank. Earlier in the day the teachers were gearing up for the game at the “Ultimate Sports Party” themed lunch on campus, even sporting plastic baseball caps, which they later wore down to the game.

While educational field trips have been a part of the institute’s curriculum, the teachers expressed an interest in experiencing additional American cultural activities. Such events were not part of the $250,000 U.S. Department of State grant which funded the institute, and without the support of these businesses, would not have been possible.
