PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.) scored a career-high seven points with three goals and four assists Monday afternoon, helping Plymouth State College to a 13-10 victory over Norwich University in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game at PSC’s practice field.
The game was scheduled to be played at Norwich, but was moved to PSC due to field conditions. The victory improved the Panthers to 4-5 overall, while the Cadets dropped to 1-8. PSC has defeated Norwich four consecutive years.
Plymouth State led the entire game, but Norwich was never out of it. The Panthers were up 5-2 after one quarter, 9-5 at the half and 12-6 at the end of three quarters, but the Cadets rallied with four unanswered goals to start the fourth quarter to pull to within two goals (12-10) with just over five minutes remaining. PSC got an insurance goal in the final minute and held on for the win.
In addition to McGuire, the Panthers got three goals apiece from senior Jim Martocchio (Simsbury, Conn.) and sophomore Kevin Finnerty (Bay Shore, N.Y.). Senior J.P. Sallese (Beverly, Mass.) added two goals and two assists, and sophomore Jason Biedrzycki (Amherst, NH) contributed two goals and an assist. Senior Eric Gilbert (South Portland, Maine) also picked up an assist.
Norwich was led by sophomore Nick Bishop (Webster, N.Y.), who tallied four goals and an assist. Junior Bryan Beers (South Burlington, Vt.) accounted for three goals, and freshman Nick Dolpp (Williamsville, N.Y.) and seniors Geoff Regan (Avon, Conn.) and Darrell Doucette (Newton, Mass.) chipped in with one apiece.
Junior goalie Jon Clark (Yarmouth, Maine) made 14 saves in the Panther net, while senior Nate Halpin (Gouvernor, N.Y.) made eight saves for the Cadets.
PSC plays a Little East Conference make-up game Thursday (Apr. 26) at Southern Maine (4:00 p.m.). Norwich is in action again Thursday at Daniel Webster (4:00 p.m.)
