PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Margaret Owen (Bozeman, Mont.) scored her second goal of the season 36 seconds after the opening kick-off Tuesday evening, and that held up as the only score of the game as Middlebury College edged Plymouth State University, 1-0, in non-conference women’s soccer action at Panther Field.
Owen finished off a crossing pass from senior Caitrin Abshere (Madison, Wis.) on the only scoring play of the game. The visitors went on to outshoot the host Panthers, 12-2, but could find the back of the net just the one time.
Sophomore Adele Plunkett (Austin, Texas) needed to make only one save for Middlebury to earn her fourth shutout of the season. PSU freshman Morgan McQuaide (Westerly, R.I.) had a busy night in the Panther net and finished with nine stops.
Middlebury, ranked ninth in this week’s Division III New England poll, improves to 6-2-0 overall, while Plymouth State falls to 4-6-1.
PSU continues its five-game home stand this Saturday with a Little East Conference match-up against Western Connecticut (12:00 p.m.) Middlebury returns to NESCAC action Saturday with a visit to Williams (11:00 a.m.)
