BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Erin Weimer (Northbrook, Ill.) scored five goals Wednesday evening to lead Mount Holyoke College’s women’s club ice hockey team past Plymouth State University, 12-4, snapping PSU’s two-game winning streak.
Weimer scored three times in the first period as the hosts led 5-2 after the first 20 minutes. After Mount Holyoke had taken a 3-0 lead, PSU got on the board as junior Kelly Williams (Canaan, N.H.) scored from freshman A.J. Johnson (Nashua, N.H.) and senior Kori Armiento (Naugutuck, Conn.), and freshman Katelyn Quint (Conway, N.H.) followed with a goal, assisted by freshman Missy Fales (West Kingston, R.I.)
Williams scored her second goal of the game and team-leading sixth of the season to open the second period, assisted by freshman Jordan Mayhew (Jamaica Plain, Mass.), making the score 5-3, but Mount Holyoke rattled off the next seven goals the put the game away. Fales rounded out the scoring for PSU with a third-period score, assisted by Quint.
Senior Maggie Margulies (Lakewood, Ohio) had two goals and two assists for Mount Holyoke, and sophomore Liz Siviski (Yarmouth, Maine) and junior Brittney Fosbrook (Anchorage, Ak.) also collected two goals apiece.
Mount Holyoke improved to 4-9-2 on the season, while PSU dropped to 3-5. The two teams are scheduled to meet again next Wednesday on PSU’s home ice at Waterville Valley Arena.
The Panthers return to action with two games this weekend at Boston University, facing Columbia University on Friday (3:00 p.m.) and BU on Saturday (7:00 p.m.)
