Plymouth State College is introducing two new programs for those wishing to pursue graduate work in education beyond the master’s degree level.
The Certificate in Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) strand in Arts, Leadership and Learning is a natural extension of the work being done at Plymouth State in arts integration, and serves to address current national trends and legislation toward including the arts as an integral part of the core school curriculum. The program addresses such issues as the benefit of an education infused with the arts; strategies to best create and build support for arts integration; the skills and practice teachers need to implement an integrated arts instructional model; the role of the arts in human development; and developing understanding and appreciation of the diversity of creative expression in a pluralistic world.
The CAGS strand in Mental Health Counseling addresses leadership issues as well as offering licensed or license-eligible counselors an opportunity to further their education and focus on an area of specialization. Some of the issues addressed in the program include: key leadership issues in the field of mental health counseling; essential competencies for clinical mental health counselors; ethical practices; developing the awareness, knowledge and skills to work effectively with diverse consumers; important policy and planning considerations in today’s health care system; clinical research and effective clinical intervention.
Both new CAGS strands provide internship opportunities in their respective fields.
