Some of the New York area’s finest musicians will come to Plymouth State College December 1 when the Silver Series for the Performing Arts presents Christmas with the Solid Brass. Performance time is 4 p.m., at the Silver Cultural Arts Center on Main Street in Plymouth.
Solid Brass, 10 brass players and a percussionist, is the only ensemble of its kind in North America. Members have performed at Lincoln Center with the Metropolitan Opera, the NYC Opera, the NYC Ballet Orchestra, in numerous Broadway shows and a host of appearances as orchestral and chamber musicians.
The holiday program of seasonal and traditional carol favorites will include music from Pachelbel to Holst, as well as French and German carols and a sing-a-long with the audience.
A critic for the Newark Star-Ledger wrote, “They are like a breath of fresh air … and the audience ate it up. For lovers of brass sound, Solid Brass could be the team to root for. Their sound was marked by smoothness, good taste, just measure and rhythmic incisiveness, making them a force to be reckoned with. The New York Times said Solid Brass “proved itself not only virtuosic but also imaginative … their coordination was unfailingly precise.”
Christmas with the Solid Brass is presented by Plymouth State College and Friends of the Arts and is sponsored in part by The Common Man Inn of Plymouth. Tickets range from $23 to $10; $5 for PSC students, and are available at the Silver Cultural Arts Center box office Monday through Friday, noon to 6 p.m. Call (603) 535-ARTS for tickets and information.
