PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two members of the women’s lacrosse team at Plymouth State College have been honored by the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) in Week Four of the 2000 season.
Junior Lisa Goldberg (Newton, MA) was selected NEWLA Defensive Player of the Week, and senior Faith Wahlen (Hampstead, NH) earned NEWLA Honorable Mention. The two were instrumental in leading the Panthers to a 3-0 record last week and maintaining first place in the Northern Division of NEWLA.
A three-year veteran in the Panther net, Goldberg made 28 saves in three starts last week. She posted a 6.86 goals against average and a .636 saves percentage, including an 18-save effort in a 23-11 victory over Colby-Sawyer. Her top performance this season was earlier this month against Bowdoin (which is ranked #2 in the nation in Division III), when she made an incredible 30 saves, the third-most saves in a game in Division III this spring.
A four-year veteran midfielder, Wahlen tallied 15 points (nine goals and six assists) in PSC’s unbeaten week. She led the Panthers in scoring against Eastern Connecticut and Colby-Sawyer with four goals and three assists in each contest, and added one more goal in limited playing time against Elms College. She is third on the team in scoring with 33 points (20 goals, 13 assists), and ranks 10th in the league in assists (1.18 per game).
PSC took a 10-3 overall record and 5-0 NEWLA into a road contest Tuesday (4/25) at Salem State. The regular season finale is Sunday (4/30) at Arold Field against NEWLA opponent Endicott College. The Panthers have clinched a NEWLA play-off berth, and will host an undetermined opponent at Arold Field in the opening round on Tuesday (5/2). The NEWLA semi-finals are Thursday (5/4) and the championship game on Saturday (5/6), with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament.
