PLYMOUTH, N.H.. – Two Plymouth State College sophomore lacrosse players have received weekly honors for their performances in Panther games last week.
Attacker J.P. Sallese (Beverly, MA) was named to the Honor Roll in the Pilgrim League, and goalie Lisa Goldberg (Newton, MA) was named to the Honor Roll in the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance.
Sallese led the Panthers with nine goals and 10 assists last week. PSC went 2-1 in the duration with back-to-back wins against Norwich (18-8) and UMass Boston (15-4). Sallese had a hat trick and six assists in the victory over Norwich, and a season-high six goals and added three dishes against UMass Boston. The stellar week moved Sallese into the Pilgrim League top 20 scoring category with a total of 35 points.
The PSC men have an overall record of 6-6 and a conference record of 3-1. They have two regular season games remaining, Wednesday (Apr. 28) at Bates (3:30 p.m.) and Saturday (May 1) at UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.). The Panthers’ play-off hopes are still alive, as the winner of the PSC – UMass Dartmouth game will decide who has the honor to attend.
A successful soccer goalie as well, Goldberg started all four games for Plymouth last week. She led the Panthers to a 2-2 mark, shunning 53 shots. In the week Goldberg saw a flurry of shots against Bates, making a career high 25 saves. During the stint the Panther goalie registered a .564 saves percentage.
The Panther women have been a highlight for PSC sports this spring posting an overall record of 10-4, and remain top in the NEWLA Northern Division with a 5-0 record. The Panthers are the number one seed in the NEWLA tournament and hosts rival Keene State Wednesday, April, 28 at 4:00 p.m.
