The NH-IMPACT Center at Plymouth State College is pleased to announce an AUSTRALIAN TASK CENTRE WORKSHOP for teachers who have had training in the Task Centre approach. However, teachers unfamiliar with the tasks are also welcome. This one-day workshop will provide teachers an opportunity to explore some new and different tasks, examine some of the newer software published by the Curriculum Corporation for the tasks, and to learn how to use these rich mathematical activities with a diverse student population. The tasks are designed to be accessible to every student, while challenging the best and brightest students. The tasks are aligned with the NCTM Standards and to the New Hampshire K-12 Mathematics Curriculum Framework. The tasks will cover a variety of content topics, such as number, probability, statistics, algebra, and geometry. The tasks all start with a hands-on experience, which can be developed into a project or investigation by “tweaking” or extending the problem. The Task Centre approach has been implemented in 23 countries.
The instructor for the day will be Charles Lovitt, the former Director of Mathematics for the Curriculum Corporation for Australia. He has authored or co-authored over 20 books on mathematics and mathematics education. Mr. Lovitt has been coming to New Hampshire for the last five years to work with schools from around the state.
The fee for the workshop is $50.00 and includes lunch and snacks. The workshop will run from 9:00 A.M.- 3:00 P.M. at Plymouth State College room 119. Participants will need to park down at the Field House and take the shuttle to campus.
Please return the application by March 14.
