PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Norwich University won seven of the 10 individual bouts Sunday afternoon and the visiting Cadets defeated Plymouth State University in a college wrestling match at Foley Gymnasium, 37-13.
The Cadets, who are ranked second in New England, improve to 13-6 on the season, while PSU, ranked 10th in New England, completes the dual meet season with a 7-9 record.
Three Norwich wrestlers won matches by pinning their opponents – sophomore Pat Howard (South Berwick, Maine) at 125 pounds, sophomore Shaun Vacher (North Attleboro, Mass.) at 165, and junior Jon Capen (Peru, N.Y.) at 184. Sophomore Jake Rivers (Plattsburg, N.Y.) and junior Silver Oghayore (Bridgeport, N.Y.) registered decisions at 157 and 197 pounds, respectively, and the Cadets received forfeit wins at 133 and heavyweight.
The Panthers got victories from junior Dan Moskowitz (Amherst, N.H.) at 149 pounds, senior Nate Kittredge (Vergennes, Vt.) at 174, and senior Shaun Cleary (West Keansburg, N.J.) at 141. Moskowitz registered his team-leading eighth pin of the year to improve his record to a team-best 20-5 on the season. Kittredge earned a major decision to up his record to 19-3, and Cleary improved to 18-5 with a 4-3 decision over Mike Conklin (Toms River, N.J.), winning the match with a takedown with less than three seconds remaining.
Both teams will compete in the annual New England Conference Championships on Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 21-22, hosted by WPI in Worcester, Mass. PSU placed third at last year’s championships and Norwich finished fifth. Springfield College is the two-time defending champions.
