PLYMOUTH, N.H. – With the Little East Conference Basketball Tournament set to begin this week, one of the top players on the Plymouth State University’s men’s team has been named Co-Player of the Week for his performance in the last week of the regular season.
Junior forward Anthony Oglesby (Brooklyn, N.Y.) shared the LEC’s top weekly honor with Eastern Connecticut’s Michael Kipphut. It is Oglesby’s first Player of the Week recognition after being named to the LEC Honor Roll on three occasions.
|A 6’3” forward, Oglesby averaged 22.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals as PSU won two LEC games last week. He posted double-doubles in both games, his ninth and 10th of the season, as PSU extended its winning streak to six games with conference wins over Southern Maine and Western Connecticut. He had 22 points and 10 rebounds in Tuesday’s victory against USM, and added 23 points and 13 boards in Saturday’s triumph over WCSU.
Oglesby will lead the Panthers into this week’s LEC Tournament. Second-seeded PSU, 21-4 overall and 11-3 in conference play, will host seventh-seeded Southern Maine, 9-16 overall and 3-11 in LEC games, Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Foley Gymnasium. The winner advances to the semifinals Friday at top-seeded Keene State College, with KSC hosting the championship game on Saturday.
The PSU women’s basketball team also opens play in the LEC Tournament on Tuesday. The seventh-seeded Panthers, 10-15 overall and 4-10 in conference play, visit second-seeded Eastern Connecticut, 21-4 overall and 11-3 in the LEC, for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. The winner advances to the semifinals Friday at top-seeded Southern Maine, with USM also hosting the championship game on Saturday.
Plymouth State’s men’s team was edged by Western Connecticut in the championship game of last year’s LEC Tournament, while the PSU women’s squad upset Eastern Connecticut in the semifinals but lost to Southern Maine in the title game.
