PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Amanda Gutowski (Conway, N.H.) recorded a goal and an assist Saturday afternoon to help lift the Plymouth State University field hockey team to a 3-0 Little East Conference victory over Worcester State University at Arold Field.
The Panthers extended their winning streak to five games and improved to 11-3 overall and 7-2 in the LEC. Worcester State dropped its second straight and fell to 8-6 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
Senior Annie Metz (North Chelmsford, Mass.) scored PSU’s first goal on a penalty corner less than 10 minutes into the game. The Panthers scored again less than six minutes later when Gutowski got on the board with an unassisted goal, her 10th of the season.
PSU added an insurance goal with 7:41 to pay in the second half when sophomore Melanie Bates (Derry, N.H.) scored off a beautiful pass across the circle from Gutowski.
The Panthers had a 28-6 advantage in shots and a 23-4 margin in penalty corners. Freshman Nichole Gomes (Harwich, Mass.) recorded 18 saves for Worcester State, while freshman Katie Randall (Portsmouth, N.H.) recorded four for the Panthers.
The Panthers next host New England College on Tuesday (3:00 p.m.) in a non-conference game. The Lancers will next host Becker College on Tuesday (4:30). PSU concludes the regular season next Saturday at home against Framingham State (12:30 p.m.).
