PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass.) had a big day for the Plymouth State University field hockey team Wednesday, netting three goals in a 9-1 win over Fitchburg State College in a Little East Conference game at rainy and raw Arold Field.
Plymouth State improved its mark of 7-1 in Little East play and 9-4 overall, extending its winning streak to seven games, while the Fitchburg falls to 2-5 in the LEC and 5-8 overall.
Freshman Melanie Bates (Derry, N.H.) also scored two goals on the day, improving her team leading total to eight goals. Three other freshman getting in on the scoring action were Shannon Santamaria (Northfield, N.H.), Christina Stark (Scituate, Mass.), and Sarah Dennis (Cohasset, Mass.) with one goal apiece. Junior Amanda Gutowski (Conway, N.H.) also chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Senior Kerry Brady (Jefferson, N.H.) had a quiet afternoon only having five shots against her with four saves. Fitchburg State goalie Christina Charron (Grafton, Mass.) ended up with eight saves.
The lone goal scorer for the Falcons was senior Jen Currier (Rowley, Mass.), coming in the first half.
Plymouth State will be on the road for their last three regular season games, beginning Saturday at Worcester State. (2:00 p.m.). Fitchburg State returns to action Saturday at home against Southern Maine (12:00 p.m.).
