PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior co-captains Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) and Michelle Norton (Sandwich, Mass.) combined for nine goals Wednesday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University to an easy 18-3 victory over the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference women’s lacrosse game at Arold Field.
PSU remains undefeated on the season at 6-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while USM drops to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the LEC. Plymouth State, the two-time defending LEC Champion, has defeated five of its six opponents by at least 10 goals.
The hosts took a 4-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game, and extended their advantage to 8-0 before the Huskies got on the board with 14:30 left on the first-half clock. It was a 14-2 contest at halftime and the Panthers coasted home after the break.
Sheridan notched five goals and added a pair of assists for the Panthers, while Norton added four goals. Sophomore Nicole Evans (Scituate, Mass.) added three goals and an assist, and classmate Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) chipped in with two goals and three assists.
Also getting into the scoring act for PSU were freshman Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) with two goals and an assist, and sophomore Caitlyn Irving (Avon, Conn.) and freshman SeaSea Fuhrman (Lakewood, Co.) with one goal apiece. Freshman Meg Cupoli (Southboro, Mass.) also provided two assists.
Junior Emily Kirkland (Damariscotta, Maine) led the visitors with two goals, while freshman Justene Larnerd (Cherry Hill, N.J.) added one.
PSU netminders Carmen Villanueva (East Schodack, N.Y.) and Suzie Lilakos (Stratham, N.H.) each made two saves in one half of action, while USM goalies Jenna Wasylak (Dunstable, Mass.) and Jen Carboni (Cheshire, Conn.) combined for nine saves.
Plymouth State returns to action Thursday night (7:00 p.m.) with a non-conference game at Springfield College, while USM returns home to host Western Connecticut in an LEC match-up Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
