BRISTOL, R.I. – The Plymouth State University wrestling team won its first match of the day over the University Southern Maine, but dropped consecutive bouts to Western New England College and Roger Williams University Saturday afternoon at a quad-meet, hosted by Roger Williams.
The Panthers defeated Southern Maine, 33-15, but suffered setbacks to WNEC, 25-18, and RWU, 28-15. PSU, ranked 10th in New England, drops to 1-3 on the season, while Roger Williams, ranked eighth in New England, is now 6-4, WNEC is 1-6, and Southern Maine is 5-1.
Senior captains Dan Moskowitz (Amherst, N.H.) and Nate Kittredge (Vergennes, Vt.) led the Panthers, each winning all three individual matches. Moskowitz went 3-0 at 157 pounds to improve his season record to 7-4, while Kittredge went 3-0 at 184 pounds to up his team-best season mark to 11-3.
Freshman Ryan Schieding (Manchester, N.H./ Memorial) recorded decisive victories at 149 pounds in the Southern Maine and WNEC matches, but lost against Roger Williams. He is now 10-5 on the season. Also collecting wins to help PSU defeat USM were freshman Chris Greenwood (Manchester, N.H./West) at 125 pounds, sophomore Matt Friend (Jefferson, N.H.) at 133, and junior Dean Miller (Long Valley, N.J.) at 165.
PSU is now idle for final exams and the holiday break. The next competition is the North-South Duals on Saturday, Jan. 8, hosted by Ursinas College (Pa.).
