PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State College overcame an early 3-0 deficit Sunday and went on to post a 14-7 victory over Bridgewater State College in a non-conference women’s lacrosse game at Arold Field.
The outcome marked Plymouth State’s fifth consecutive victory, improving the Panthers to 5-1 overall. Bridgewater State drops to 2-4. It was the first meeting between the two schools since PSC defeated BSC for the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance Championship last spring.
Junior Paula Habel (Hingham, Mass.) scored the first three goals of the game to give Bridgewater a 3-0 advantage eight minutes into the contest. PSC responded with five unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead into halftime. It was still a two-goal game (8-6) with a little more than 10 minutes remaining, but PSC scored four straight goals in less than three minutes to put the game away.
Sophomore Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) scored five goals to lead the Panthers, while sophomore Michelle Norton (Sandwich, Mass.) tallied four goals and an assist and freshman Annmarie Guglielmo (Gansevoort, N.Y.) contributed four goals. Senior Brooke Smith (Columbia, SC) also had a goal and an assist for the Panthers.
Habel ended up with four of BSC’s seven goals, with junior Melanie Medeiros (Somerset, Mass.) scoring the other three.
PSC freshman Melissa Gravilla (Andover, N.H.) made 10 saves, while Bridgewater State goalie Danielle Bean (Bethel, Vt.) recorded 15 saves.
Plymouth State is home again Tuesday with a Little East Conference game against Southern Maine (3:30 p.m.). Bridgewater State returns home to host Worcester State on Tuesday (4 p.m.).
