NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Senior Andrew Quesnel (Middlebury, Vt.) scored three of his four goals in the second half Monday to lead Plymouth State College to a 13-11 win over Norwich University in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game at Howard Field.
Norwich junior Nick Bishop (Webster, N.Y.) netted three goals in the first 4:30 of the game as the Cadets jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead. Sophomore Jesse Roy (East Middlebnury, Vt.) sandwiched a Panther score with two of his three goals as the Cadets led 6-1 after the first period.
Plymouth State dominated the rest of the way, including a stretch of six straight goals, to tie the game at 8-8 by the end of the third quarter. The Panthers had a 5-1 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to win going away.
In addition to Quesnel, PSC got three goals from junior Jason Biedrzycki (Amherst, N.H.) and two goals apiece from sophomore Sam Harding (South Berwick, Maine) and junior Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.). Single goals were recorded by junior Kevin Finnerty (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and senior Eric Gilbert (South Portland, Maine).
Junior Mike Gioia (Talbot, Tenn.) made 18 saves in net for Norwich, while PSC junior Dan Egan (Cambridge, Mass.) made nine stops for the Panthers.
Plymouth State returns home to host Southern Maine Tuesday in a Little East Conference affair in the home opener at Panther Field (4:00 p.m.).
