NEW LONDON, N.H. – Plymouth State College wrapped up a regular-season sweep of the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Northern Division Sunday and ended Colby-Sawyer’s three-game winning streak with a 21-7 victory over the Chargers.
The Panthers (8-2 overall, 5-0 in the division) led 8-4 at halftime and then erupted in the second period, outscoring the Chargers (3-8, 1-4) 13-3 over the game’s final 30 minutes.
PSC’s Amanda Beedy (New Hampton, NH) led all scorers with four goals, while freshmen teammates Janet Conner (South Freeport, ME) and Robin Hartman (Reistertown, MD) added three goals apiece. Other multiple goal scorers for Plymouth State included sophomore Chrystn Pitt (Freeport, ME), junior Jess Shapiro (Windsor Locks, CT) and fresman Cathleen Yackenchick (Greenfield, MA), who each tallied a pair.
Panther goalies Lisa Goldberg (Newton, MA) and Brenna Matarazzo (Salem, NH) split the duties in the net and made three and eight saves, respectively.
The Panthers wrap up the regular season with four non-league games this week, three of which are on the road. PSC will host Colby on Saturday (Apr. 24) in the last regular season home game, surrounded by road contests Tuesday (Apr. 20) at Bates (4:00 p.m.), Thursday (Apr. 22) at Elms (4:00 p.m.), and Sunday (Apr. 25) at UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.). Tuesday’s game matches the Panthers against Bates coach Wynn Hohlt, who coached PSC the last six seasons.
