BOSTON, Mass. – The Plymouth State College women’s swimming and diving team improved its record to 5-2 Saturday with a 161-124 victory over Simmons College.
Sophomore Sarah Lagasse (Haverhill, MA) continued her superb season on the diving boards. She captured both the one- and three-meter events, setting pool records on both boards with scores of 222.05 and 199.85, respectively.
The Panther swimmers were led by junior Meaghan Buckley (Haverhill, MA), who won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.79 seconds and took the 100-yard free in a season-best 55.97 seconds. Buckley has won at least two individual freestyle races in every PSC dual meet this season.
Three other Panthers were individual winners at Simmons. Junior Sandy Twaddell (Jaffrey, NH) captured the 500-yard freestyle in 5:46.02, freshman Julia Larsson (Varberg, Sweden) placed first in the 50-yard backstroke (32.06), and freshman Allison Bregy (Camden, ME) won the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.32).
Plymouth State opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (2:10.15), using the team of Larsson, Aimee Cormier (Milford, ME), Joyce Mailhot (Lewiston, ME) and Amy Bernier (Bristol, CT).
The Panthers have a 10-day lay-off before their next competition, a home meet on Tuesday (Jan. 26) against St. Michael’s College (6:00 p.m.) at the PSC Natatorium in the P.E. Center.
The remaining schedule for Plymouth State includes the last home meet on Saturday (Jan. 30) against Western Connecticut (1:00 p.m.), the last dual meet on Wednesday (Feb. 3) at Keene State (6:00 p.m.), and the Division III New England Championships on Friday-Sunday (Feb. 19-21) at Bowdoin College.
