CHICOPEE, Mass. – Freshman Brooke Smith (Columbia, SC) came off the bench to score three goals Thursday, leading Plymouth State College’s women’s lacrosse team to a 15-4 victory over Elms College.
Two other Panther reserves added two goals apiece – junior Nancy Davis (New Hampton, NH) and freshman Sacha Jackson (Sangerville, ME).
The Panthers improve to 9-3 on the season, while Elms drops to 0-11 overall. The game did not count in the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance standings, since PSC is a Northern Division team and Elms is in the Southern Division.
The two teams were tied 1-1 eight minutes into the game, but Plymouth State scored six unanswered goals over the next 22 minutes to take a 7-1 lead at the break, and then pulled away in the second half.
Junior Amanda Beedy (New Hampton, NH) and freshman Robin Hartman (Reistertown, MD) each contributed a goal and an assist for PSC. Single goals were added by seniors Faith Wahlen (Hampstead, NH) and Sam Guthrie (Falmouth, MA), sophomore Chrystn Pitt (Freeport, ME), and freshmen Janet Conner (South Freeport, ME) and Cathleen Yackenchick (Greenfield, MA).
Elms was led by Melissa DaCosta, who scored three of the Blazers’ four goals.
The Panthers return home Saturday (Apr. 24) for the last regular-season home game at Arold Field against Colby College (1:00 p.m.), then conclude the regular season Sunday (Apr. 25) at UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.). The opening round of the NEWLA Tournament tentatively has Northern Division top-seed PSC hosting fourth-seed Keene State next Wednesday (Apr. 28) at Arold Field (Time TBA).
