PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Jim Martocchio (Simsbury, Conn.) scored a season-high eight goals and added two assists Sunday afternoon to lead Plymouth State College to a 15-5 non-conference men’s lacrosse victory over Lasell College in the last regular season game of the season at Panther Field.
Martocchio scored three times in each of the first two quarters as PSC built leads of 5-0 after one period and 12-1 after two. He added PSC’s only goal of the third period and rounded out his day with a fourth quarter tally.
With the victory, the Panthers wrap up the regular season with a 6-6 overall record. PSC also finished fourth in the Little East Conference with a 3-3 mark, and will host fifth-seeded Salem State this Tuesday (May 1) at Panther Field (6:00 p.m.) in the opening round of the inaugural LEC Tournament.
In addition to Martocchio, senior J.P. Sallese (Beverly, Mass.) contributed three goals and two assists Saturday. Sallese leads the team in assists (39) and points (63), while Martocchio has the team lead in goals (44). Single goals were scored for PSC by sophomores Kevin Finnerty (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.), junior Eric Gilbert (South Portland, Maine) and senior Tony Bosco (Derry, N.H.), and McGuire and junior Nolan Fredericks (Temple, N.H.) picked up two assists apiece.
Sophomore Matt Marquart (Clifton, N.J.) led the Lasell offense with three goals and an assist. Freshman John Sullivan (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and sophomore Mike Norton (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) counted once goal each for the Lasers.
Junior goalie Jon Clark (Yarmouth, Maine) made 15 saves for the Panthers in the first three quarters, and senior Davin Townley-Tilson (Concord, N.H.) came off the bench to make three saves in the final period. Junior Paul Lively (Frederick, Md.) made eight saves for Lasell.
