WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Plymouth State College won nine of the 16 events Saturday to defeat St. Joseph’s College in a women’s swimming and diving meet, 159-121.
The victory improves PSC’s record in dual meets to 5-2 on the season. It is the Panthers’ best mark since the team finished 7-3 in 1998-99.
Plymouth State was led by three individuals who captured two events apiece. The Panthers also had the depth to win both the 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Leading the PSC swimmers were senior Allison Bregy (Camden, Maine), sophomore Scarlette Scarborough (Salem, N.H.) and senior Amy Bernier (Bristol, Conn.). Bregy won the grueling 1000-yard freestyle (12:11.71) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:28.50), Scarborough took the 200 butterfly (2:21.25) and 200 backstroke (2:28.27), and Bernier finished first in the 50 fly (29.54).
Sophomore Jen Crescenzi (Killingworth, Conn.) turned in one of her best days of the season, winning both diving events — the one-meter voluntary (season-high score of 158.70) and one-meter optional (170.35, also a season-high). They are Crescenzi’s first dual meet victories in her career.
The Panthers return home Tuesday (Jan. 30) to host in-state rival Keene State at the PSC Natatorium (6:00 p.m.).
