MANCHESTER, N.H. – Plymouth State College posted its second straight field hockey shutout victory Thursday afternoon, blanking Saint Anselm
College 3-0 at the South Athletic Fields.
The Panthers (2-0) took the lead early on when senior Marushka Eddy (Nantucket, Mass.) took a feed from sophomore Caitlin Moran (Rowley, Mass.)
and deftly eluded Saint Anselm (0-2) goaltender Amanda Cancellieri (Fitchburg, Mass./ Fitchburg) for the initial tally in just the eighth minute of play. Less
than three minutes later Eddy struck again, this time off of an assist from classmate Katie Dodge (Sanbornton, N.H.) to extend the Plymouth lead to 2-0 for the
remainder of the first half.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, the second half of the contest was very similar to the first as Panther freshman Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass.) finished off a
centering pass Dodge, pushing the PSC lead to 3-0 in the 44th minute.
The Hawks, meanwhile, saw more scoring opportunities in the second half, but once again could not manage a goal as Panther junior goalies Ellen
Ward (Thorndike, Maine) and Kerry Brady (Jefferson, N.H.) combined on the shutout.
PSC returns home to host Springfield College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Springfield is ranked in the top 10 in the latest Division III national poll.
