PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State College’s swimming and diving team finished up the dual meet season Wednesday evening with a 152-140 defeat at the hands of Keene State College at the PSC Natatorium.
The outcome gives PSC a 4-5 overall record for the dual meets, while KSC concludes its dual meet season at 12-3. It also gives the Owls a commanding 10-0 lead over the Panthers in the Presidents’ Trophy race, which counts all head-to-head competition during the year between Keene State and Plymouth State.
The Owls were led by freshman Lanell Smith (Concord, NH) and Jennica Tripp (Tenton, Maine). Smith placed first in the 100 and 200 breaststroke., and Tripp captured the 200 backstroke and 500 freestyle. Freshman Erica Galica (Wallingford, CT) also won the 100 backstroke, and sophomore Katy Cargiulo (Chappaqua, NY) took first in the 1000 free.
The Panthers were led by senior Meaghan Buckley (Haverhill, Mass.) and sophomore Allison Bregy (Camden, Maine). Buckley placed first in the 50, 100 and 200 yard freestyle events (26.63, 57.80 and 2:05.50, respectively). Bregy won the 100 and 200 butterfly (1:06.76 and 2:22.18, respectively), and the 200 individual medley (2:24.52) against Keene.
Senior Sue Lassonde (Concord, NH) also placed first for PSC in the one-meter diving (178.60) and three-meter diving (187.20). Sandy Twaddell (Jaffrey, NH), Amy Bernier (Bristol, CT), Andrea Boutilier (Chicopee, Mass.) and Buckley all combined to win the 400 freestyle relay.
Plymouth State and Keene State will compete in the annual Division III New England Championships Feb. 18-20 at Bowdoin College.
