Panthers drop opener at Salve

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University took a 5-0 lead early in the second period Friday night and went on to a 7-3 victory over Plymouth State College in an
ECAC Northeast college hockey game.

Matt Hillberg and Geno Binda led the Seahawks with a goal and two assists apiece. Binda help set up the first two goals as Salve led 2-0 nine minutes into the
game, and Binda assisted on the next two and scored the fifth to help put the Panthers away.

Senior John Hornor (Marlton, N.J.) put PSC on the board with a power play goal late in the second period. Hillberg added another for Salve in the final minute of the
middle period to make it 7-1.

The Panthers didn’t give up, and sophomores Ryan Luczynski (Concord, N.H.) and Matt Toutain (Lewiston, Maine) connected on third period goals with about five
minutes remaining to close out the scoring.

Senior Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) took the loss, allowing five goals and making 18 saves in 23 minutes. Sophomore Mike Mansson (Wilson, WY) made 19
saves and surrendered just two goals in the final 37 minutes. Chris Burns (48 minutes, 17 saves, 1 goal allowed) and Matt Porter (12 mins, 11 svs, 2 GA) tended the net
for the Seahawks.

PSC, 0-1-0 overall and in conference play, looks for its first win of the season under first-year head coach Chris Hudon Saturday (Nov. 17) with a conference
match-up at UMass Dartmouth (4:30 p.m.).
