COLCHESTER, Vt. — Niki Pelletier (Salem, Mass.) scored two goals off the bench Saturday to lead Saint Michael’s College to a season-opening 4-3 victory over
Plymouth State College during the first day of the Radisson Kick-Off Classic at Doc Jacobs Field.
Sarah Pope (West Springfield, Mass.) and Hannah Beggan (Cohasset, Mass.) helped the Purple Knights gain a 2-0 advantage just five minutes into the game
before PSC senior Carrie Poulin (Westfield, Mass.) connected at the 23:46 mark, with an assist from junior Sandra Petlick (New Castle, N.H.). Pelletier notched her first
goal for SMC six minutes later to make it 3-1 at the half.
Petlick connected on a pair of second half goals for the Panthers, at the 70:07 and 85:12 marks, both assisted by Poulin, but Pelletier’s second tally at 73:47
provided the margin of victory for the Purple Knights.
Saint Michael’s outshot PSC by a 26-7 margin. SMC goalkeepers Tara McCuin (Highgate Center, Vt.) and Abigail Lemanski (Lenox, Mass.) each recorded one
save. PSC senior keeper Becky Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) came up with many big saves in stopping 12 shots.
Saint Michael’s will face East Stroudsburg at noon on Sunday during day two of the tournament, while PSC will battle Saint Anselm College Sunday at 2 p.m.
