FT. MYERS, Fla. – Plymouth State College dropped to the .500 mark on its spring trip Monday, dropping a pair of games to Hope College (Mich.) in the annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, 22-7 and 13-7.
Hope scored seven runs in the first inning of the opener and never looked back, scoring 22 runs on 20 hits. The second game wasn’t much better for PSC, as Hope tallied 13 runs on 13 hits, taking a 10-2 lead after five innings.
The Panther bats still did some work, scoring seven runs on nine hits in each game. Junior Jay Zinis (Manchester, N.H./West) cracked home runs in both ends of the twinbill, his first two of the season, and classmate Robbie Burr (Concord, N.H.) had two hits in the first game, including a double, and two more hits, including his first homer, in the nightcap. Junior Matt Price (Epping, N.H.) also homered for PSC in the opener, his first of the season.
PSC, 2-2, is back in action Tuesday with a twinbill against Hope College (Mich.) before an off day on Wednesday.
