FT. MYERS, Fla. – Framingham State College pounded out 24 hits and scored 26 runs Monday, sweeping a baseball doubleheader from Plymouth State College Monday evening in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, 7-2 and 19-6.
The Rams broke open a 1-0 game in the opener with two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth. PSC scored twice in the bottom of the seventh but it was too little too late. Senior Scott Hodsdon (Somersworth, N.H.) had four hits for the Panthers in the losing effort. Senior Jason Egan (Sharon, Mass.) was hit with the loss for PSC.
Each team scored a pair of runs in the second inning of the nightcap, but Framingham State ran away with the game with four runs in the third and seven in the fourth. Junior Brad Wilby (Haddonfield, N.J.) took the loss for PSC, his first decision of the year.
Hodsdon and fellow senior Jay Zinis (Manchester, N.H./West) each had two hits in the second game for the Panthers, with both recording a double. Junior Nick Libera (Cromwell, Conn.) also added a pair of singles.
PSC, 2-2, continues action in Florida Wednesday morning with a doubleheader against New England College.
