REDLANDS, Cal. – Plymouth State College outscored Colorado College 2-1 in two overtime periods Thursday night and pulled out a 14-13 victory in a women’s lacrosse game played at the University of Redlands.
The Panthers, who scored in the final minute of regulation to force the three-minutes overtime sessions, improve to 2-1 on the season. Colorado College had a four-game winning streak stopped and dips to 4-2.
The Tigers held an 8-6 lead at halftime and maintained an 11-8 advantage with 15 minutes to play before PSC rallied to tie it at 12-12 at the end of 60 minutes.
Junior Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) led the Panthers with six goals for the second straight game. Her sixth goal tied the game at 12-12 with 50 seconds to play in regulation. She also added three assists, including one in the first extra frame.
Freshmen Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) and Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass.) each contributed two goals for PSC, including one apiece in overtime. Sophomore Annmarie Guglielmo (Gansevoort, N.Y.) also scored two goals, while senior Jill Matteson (Chatham, Mass.) added a goal and two assists. Junior Michelle Norton (Sandwich, Mass.) registered a goal and an assist.
Freshman Helen Sneath (Wayne, Pa.) led the Tigers with five goals, while freshman Cassie Abel (Vashon Island, Wash.) scored three times and junior Allison Craig (Denver, Col.) added two. Senior Kip Morris (Falmouth, Mass.), junior Eliza Fitzhugh (Montpelier, Vt.) and sophomore Jen Alpern (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) each added one goal for CC.
Plymouth State junior goalkeeper Carmen Villanueva (East Schodack, N.Y.) turned in a solid effort with 20 saves.
The Panthers return to New England for a pair of road games next week – Tuesday (Mar. 25) at Babson (6:00 p.m.) and Thursday (Mar. 27) at Springfield (7:00 p.m.).
