FITCHBURG, Mass. – Senior Jeff Brodeur (Townsend, Mass.) scored one goal and assisted on two others Saturday afternoon, leading Fitchburg State College to
a 4-3 victory over Plymouth State College in an ECAC Northeast Conference ice hockey game.
Plymouth State battled back from a 4-1 third-period deficit with a pair of goals to pull within one, but couldn’t get the tying score. The loss drops PSC to 5-12-1
overall and 5-8-0 in the conference, while Fitchburg State improves to 13-8-2 and 7-6-0 in the Northeast.
Brodeur gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead just 44 seconds into the contest. FSC sophomore Shane Coleman (Charlestown, Mass.) and Panther senior John Hornor
(Marlton, N.J.) exchanged goals later in the period to make it 2-1, a score that stood until the third period.
Freshmen Chad Fletcher (Whitinsville, Mass.) and Sebastien Corbeil (St-Lazare, Que.) tallied back-to-back goals for the Falcons to open the third period scoring.
Sophomore Mike Jackson (Middleton, Mass.) countered with a power play goal for PSC at 15:33, and freshman Kyle Poirier (Concord, N.H.) added his team-leading
seventh of the season at the 17:52 mark, but it was too little, too late for the Panthers.
Fitchburg State had a 46-35 advantage in shots on goal. PSC senior Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) made 42 saves, the fifth time this season he has made more
than 40 stops. Junior Jason Holt (Fitchburg, Mass.) made 32 saves for the Falcons.
The Panthers play a non-conference home game this Tuesday against Tufts at Waterville Valley Ice Arena (7:00 p.m.).
