WENHAM, Mass. – Senior Ryan Hardin scored six goals and two assists and teammate Pete Chapman added four goals and five assists Thursday afternoon, leading Gordon College to a 16-12 victory over Plymouth State College in a non-conference men’s lacrosse game.
Gordon improves to 4-3 with the win, while PSC drops to 1-4. The contest was originally scheduled to be played in Plymouth, but was moved to Gordon because of weather and field conditions. The game had added significance for Panther first-year head coach John Pynchon, who was an assistant at Gordon the past two seasons.
The game was close most of the way, but the Fighting Scots won several key battles on face-offs and ground balls. Gordon had a narrow lead after each of the first two quarters (4-3 and 9-7) but the Fighting Scots never relinquished the lead in the second half.
Senior Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.) led the Panthers with six points, matching his career high with five goals. Freshman Jon Gagnon (New Bedford, Mass.) contributed two goals and an assist, while junior Sam Harding (South Berwick, Maine) and freshman Bobby Dabrieo (Woburn, Mass.) added two goals apiece. Senior Kevin Finnerty (Bay Shore, N.Y.) also had a goal and an assist, and senior Jason Biedrzycki (Amherst, N.H.), who returned after missing two games, assisted on one goal.
In addition to Hardin and Chapman, Gordon got three goals from junior Rob Frink and two goals and two assists from senior Mark Schreiber.
Freshman Michael Rodrick (Plaistow, N.H.) manned the Panther goal, making 15 saves. Gordon goalie Jeremy Collins stopped seven PSC shots.
The Panthers are scheduled to play their first home game of the season this Saturday with a Little East Conference contest against archrival Keene State (2:00 p.m.), but the game is tentative due to the weather. Gordon plays a Commonwealth Coast Conference game Saturday at Wentworth (12:00 p.m.).
