FT. MYERS, Fla. – Plymouth State College pitching was hit hard Tuesday as the Panther baseball team lost two games in the annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
PSC dropped the opening game of the day to Babson College, 8-5, as the Beavers collected eight runs on 11 hits. The Panthers dropped the second game to the University of Chicago, 10-2, as the PSC hurlers were tagged for 10 runs on 14 hits. PSC has dropped to 2-4 on the trip after starting out 2-0.
The Panthers did have some offensive highlights. Junior Scott Hodsdon (Somersworth, N.H.) had three hits in the opener, including a triple, and came back with a pair of singles in the second game. Junior Jay Zinis (Manchester, N.H./West) had two hits against Babson, junior Sy Tebbetts (Hollis, N.H.) added a pair against Chicago, and classmate Robbie Burr (Concord, N.H.) cracked his second home run of the season in the nightcap.
After an off-day on Wednesday, PSC returns to the diamond Thursday with a doubleheader against the Bantams of Trinity College (Conn.), who are off to a 5-1 start. The Panthers conclude the week with a twinbill Friday againt Coe College (Iowa).
