SPRINGFIELD, Mass.— Plymouth State College won its first three women’s volleyball matches of the season before falling in the championship match Saturday at the Western New
England College Invitational.
The Panthers defeated host WNEC Friday evening, three games to one (30-22, 28-30, 30-16, 31-29). In Saturday’s action, PSC knocked off Pine Manor three straight (30-11, 30-21,
30-19) and Southern New Hampshire in four games (33-31, 25-30, 30-24, 30-17) to advance to the championship match.
In the final, the Panthers were defeated by Williams College, 30-18, 30-21, 30-23. All of the matches in the tournament were played under the new rules, in which the games are played
to 30 and points are scored on all rallies, regardless of which team is serving.
PSC’s two junior co-captains were selected to the All-Tournament team – outside hitter Carin LaValley (Northfield, N.H.) and setter Jessie O’Hearn (Tilton, N.H.).
Plymouth State returns home to play in the home opener and the Little East Conference opener next weekend (Sept. 14-15) at Foley Gymnasium. PSC will host an LEC round robin,
beginning Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m.
