BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Plymouth State College won three of its four women’s volleyball matches Friday and Saturday, and won the Silver Medal Pool at the Bridgewater State Open
The Panthers blanked Endicott in their first match Friday evening, 3-0, but lost to Wheaton College, 3-1, in the second match to move in the Silver Medal Pool. PSC had good results
Saturday, defeating Rhode Island College, 3-0, and Clark University, 3-1.
The results leave PSC, which was ranked 11th in last week’s New England poll, with a 14-2 overall record on the season.
Wheaton defeated Bridgewater State and Bates to win the Gold Medal Pool.
Plymouth State had one representative on the All-Tournament Team – freshman Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.). She had 42 kills and only seven errors in over 100 attempts in the
tournament, including 12 kills and only one error in the win over RIC and 16 kills and one error in the triumph over Clark. Landry also contributed 46 digs and nine services aces to the Panther
Juniors Becky Landry (Nashua, N.H.) and Kate Shirey (Amherst, N.H.) also had strong performances for the Panthers. Landry registered 39 kills in the tournament, including 19 in the
Clark match, and added 16 aces and 10 blocks. Shirey chipped in with 25 kills, 10 digs and nine blocks.
Senior Jessie O’Hearn (Tilton, N.H.) finished the four matches with 129 set assists, including 45 in the victory over Clark. Junior libero Amber Greenlaw (Gilford, N.H.) made 58
digs, reaching double figures in three of the four matches.
PSC plays a Little East match Wednesday (Oct. 2) at UMass Boston (6:00 p.m.) and participates in the Bates Tournament next Friday and Saturday (Oct. 4-5).
