PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State College clinched its second straight Little East Conference women’s lacrosse regular season title Sunday with a 14-3 victory over Western Connecticut State University at Arold Field.
The Panthers led 7-2 at the half and scored the first five goals of the second half to put the game away. PSC extended its winning streak to four games and improved to 9-3 overall and 5-0 in Little East games, while WCSU falls to 6-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Juniors Michelle Norton (Sandwich, Mass.) and Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) led the Panthers with four goals apiece, with Norton also collecting two assists. Freshman Bethany Brown (Norwich, Conn.) added three goals for the winners, while classmate Lilly Silva (Lowell, Mass.) chipped in with two goals and senior Melissa Cotton (Osterville, Mass.) scored once. Senior Jill Matteson (Chatham, Mass.) added two assists for PSC.
Seniors Lauren Scott (Fairfield, Conn.) and Kadesha Collins-Fletcher (Curepe, Trinidad) and freshman Ellie Champagne (Newtown, Conn.) each scored once for Western.
PSC netminder Carmen Villanueva (East Schodack, N.Y.) made 11 saves, while WCSU freshman Melissa Perry (Danbury, Conn.) made 15 saves.
Plymouth State is the top seed in this week’s LEC Tournament, and receives a first-round bye on Tuesday. The Panthers will host a semifinal game Friday at Arold Field, with the time and opponent to be determined. Western Connecticut will find out its LEC Tournament opponent on Monday.
