LINCOLN, N.H. – Plymouth State College’s men’s and women’s alpine skiing teams both placed fourth in the giant slalom Sunday at the Brown University Winter Carnival held at Loon
Both the men’s and women’s results in the GS were based on one only run. The second run was cancelled due to the heavy wet snow that fell in New Hampshire.
UMass Amherst captured the men’s team title, ahead of runner-up Colby-Sawyer and third-place Boston College. PSC was fourth, followed by Babson, Brown, New England College,
St. Anselm, MIT and UConn. Boston College was the winner of the women’s race, beating out UMass and Brown. PSC placed fourth, ahead of Colby-Sawyer, Smith, St. Anselm, MIT, NEC,
Babson and UConn.
Junior Whitney Swaffield (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and sophomore Tyler Barlow (South Burlington, Vt.) continued to lead the Panthers. Swaffield placed third in Sunday’s GS out of more
than 70 skiers. She has been among the top six finishers in all six races this season (three slalom, three GS). Barlow placed eighth in the men’s race among the nearly 100 skiers. He has
placed in the top 10 in all six races this winter.
Other top PSC finishers in the women’s GS race included freshman Chantelle Heroux (Cooperstown, N.Y.) in 11th, freshman Kelsey Real (Lanesboro, Mass.) in 26th, and
sophomore Jessica Bouchard (Temple, Maine) in 30th.
Rounding out the top PSC men’s finishers in the GS were freshman Rob Kiely (New London, N.H.) in 17th, junior Brent Grygiel (Windham, Maine) in 20th, junior Justin Parent
(Sanbornville, N.H.) in 22nd, freshman Skip Bartlett (Silver Lake, N.H.) in 26th, and senior Bill Feather (Waterville Valley, N.H.) in 29th.
PSC will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday at the Boston College Winter Carnival at Ascutney Mountain (Vt.).
