NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women’s swimming and diving placed fourth out of five teams Saturday at the annual Little East Conference Championships, hosted by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Keene State won its second straight LEC team title and fifth overall, scoring 605 points in the meet. UMass Dartmouth took second with 271 points, followed by Eastern Connecticut (254.5), Plymouth State (181.5) and Western Connecticut (134). KSC captured 10 of the 16 events in the meet, while WestConn took first in four races and PSU and UMD one each.
Senior Kate Marrie (Swampscott, Mass.) and junior Christina Labriola (Westerly, R.I.) had the top performances for Plymouth State. Marrie captured first place in the one-meter diving with a score of 156.20, and finished runner-up on the three-meter board with a score of 149.75. Labriola placed third in the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 1:08.85.
Other solid performances by the Panthers included sophomore Chaz Sweeney (Methuen, Mass.), who was fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:09.52); junior Amanda Branch (Gray, Maine), who was sixth in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:09.47) and 200-yard butterfly (2:34.96); and sophomore Elise Innis (Harpswell, Maine), who placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (28.55).
PSU returns to dual meet action next Saturday, Dec. 8, with a visit to Westfield State College for a 1:00 p.m. meet. The Panthers will have their final meet of the semester at the PSU Natatorium on Wednesday, Dec. 12, against Bridgewater State College (6:00 p.m.)
