SALEM, Mass. – Ten different players got into the scoring column Tuesday afternoon as Plymouth State College defeated Salem State College, 24-7, in a Little East Conference men’s lacrosse make-up contest.
The Panthers took a 5-2 lead after one quarter and extended it to 11-5 by halftime. PSC then outscored the Vikings 8-1 in the third frame to pull ahead 19-6 before coasting home in the final quarter. PSC improves to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while Salem State remains winless in eight tries, including all six LEC games.
Senior Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.) led the Panthers, matching his career high with seven points (five goals, two assists). Freshman Bobby Dabrieo (Woburn, Mass.) added four goals, and senior Kevin Finnerty (Bay Shore, N.Y.), sophomore John Gallagher (Forestdale, Mass.) and freshman Jon Gagnon (New Bedford, Mass.) contributed three goals apiece.
Senior Jason Biedrzycki (Amherst, N.H.) didn’t score, but led PSC with five assists. Junior Sam Harding (South Berwick, Maine) chipped in with two goals and three assists, and junior Eric Gobiel (Chelmsford, Mass.) and sophomores Steve Skinner (Hingham, Mass.), Matt McCormick (Sudbury, Mass.) and Pat O’Malley (South Windsor, Conn.) tallied one goal each.
McCormick, who led PSC with 10 ground balls, also won 15 of 21 face-offs for the Panthers.
Salem State was led by junior Eric Stanton (Fremont, Mass.), who scored three goals, and classmate Mike Raskevitz (Leverett, Mass.), who added a pair.
PSC goalies Mike Rodrick (Plaistow, N.H.) and Tim McNamara (West Lebanon, N.H.) combined to make 11 saves.
The Panthers will be back in action Thursday with a non-conference match-up at Johnson State College (4:00 p.m.). PSC then wraps up the regular season this weekend with a pair of LEC contests – Saturday at UMass Dartmouth (3:00 p.m.) and Sunday at home against Keene State (2:00 p.m.).
