WORCESTER, Mass. – Plymouth State College stopped an eight-game ice hockey losing streak Tuesday evening with a 4-2 victory over Assumption College in an
ECAC Northeast Conference match-up at Buffone Rink.
The Panthers overcame a 1-0 deficit to pull out the road victory. It was PSC’s first win since a 5-4 decision over Nichols College on Nov. 18th. The Panthers are
now 2-9-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the Northeast, while the Greyhounds are now 1-8-0 and 1-3-0.
Assumption led 1-0 at the end of the first period, with Andrew Senesi (Arlington, Mass.) putting the Greyhounds on the board. PSC’s John Hornor (Marlton, N.J.)
tied the game just 1:26 into the second period, with Chris Tortorella (Larchmont, N.Y.) and Tommy Beaulieu (Hudson, N.H.) picking up assists.
The Panthers took the lead at the 17:17 mark of the second period when freshman defenseman Bryan Croft (Webster, N.H.) scored his first career goal, with
PSC’s leading scorer, freshman Garrett Dionne (Clarence Center, N.Y.), assisting on the play. Senior Matt McPhee (Plymouth, Mass.) made it a 3-1 Panther lead with
his third of the season at the 4:55 mark of the third period, with Beaulieu and Hornor earning assists.
Senesi tallied his second goal of the game, an unassisted marker at 9:38, to pull Assumption to within one, but Dionne scored an insurance marker at 12:09 with
his team-leading fifth goal of the season from senior Erik Nadeau (Waterville, Maine).
PSC outshot Assumption 35-28 in the contest. Panther junior Larry Forgue (Nashua, N.H.) made 26 saves to earn the victory, while Greyhound goalie Dan Lupi
(Haverhill, Mass.) made 31 saves.
PSC plays another ECAC Northeast road contest Saturday (Jan. 13) at Framingham State (5:30 p.m.) before returning home to host New Hampshire College next
Tuesday (Jan. 16) at Waterville Valley Ice Arena (7:00 p.m.).
