ONEONTA, N.Y. – Plymouth State College’s wrestling team returned from Oneonta, N.Y. with one win and two losses in a meet hosted by Oneonta
The Panthers picked up a 20-18 victory over Williams College, but took losses to Oneonta State (24-13) and Brockport State (26-12).
The results give Plymouth State a 5-2 record in dual matches this season under fourth-year head coach Dave Carlson.
Leading the way for the Panthers was senior heavyweight Ryan Carr (Salem, NH). He won all three of his matches to improve his season record to 14-5,
which is tops on the team in victories. Carr, who is ranked third in New England, registered a 4-3 defeat over Chris Sweatman of Williams, who is ranked fourth in
Two other Panthers picked up two wins apiece. Sophomore Brent Arbogast (Nashua, NH) went 2-0 at 141 pounds to up his individual record to 13-4,
and senior Todd Oljey (Byfield, MA) split a pair of matches at 157 pounds and won once at 149 to even his overall record at 5-5. Both Panther wrestlers earned
victories over Williams opponents who are ranked in New England.
Those Panthers who won one match on the afternoon, along with their updated records, included senior Russ Pamulak (Indianola, IA) at 184 pounds
(12-4); junior Ben Baker (Gardiner, ME) at 174 pounds (12-5); sophomore Moses Cerritos (Naples, FL) at 165 pounds (4-6); sophomore Marco Salce
(Keene, NH) at 174 pounds (3-3); junior Todd Austin (Rumford, ME) at 197 pounds (5-8); freshman Nate Buffington (Plymouth, NH) at 125 pounds (2-12);
junior Derek Warshafsky (Chelmsford, MA) at 149 pounds (1-2).
Plymouth State travels to Providence, RI, this Saturday (Jan. 16) for the Wildcat Duals, hosted by Johnson & Wales University (10:00 a.m.).
